2024 MONDAY BIKE RIDES
Led by Peggy Kvam for the Hopkins Activity Center
Once again we enjoyed perfect weather for today's ride. The theme today was Nine Mile Creek. We biked the trail along the creek and saw a few projects that perform stormwater management and water quality improvement, developed by the Nine Mile Creek Watershed District. Janna Keiffer, our consulting engineer from Barr Engineering, met us at Rosland Park to explain the filtration vault, which filters out the over-abundant phosphorus from Lake Cornelia. Then we biked past Lynmar Basin, which takes in stormwater from the Southdale area and guides it to percolate through the earth to recharge groundwater. Our long break was at Centennial Lakes, which is similar to Lynmar Basin, also taking in stormwater but releasing it slowly into the creek rather than infiltrating it into the earth. Following our educational bike ride, we celebrated a grand summer of biking with a potluck picnic. I forgot to take pictures there, but you can enjoy the ones below from our bike ride.
